Hey, guys. Sorry for the delay; time kind of got away from me there, but I am back and I have quite a few new adventures to tell you guys about. First, I should tell you of my near-death experience. Then I will get to Tyler’s different and more exciting near-death experience. So, I was driving home from the big Watford Corn fest dance, which I had to DD for Tyler and his friends. First, this was the first time that I had gone to a dance. They played really good music so I was pretty much having a great night. And then, as I was driving home at three in the morning in the rain, what do I see at the last second? A red car parked lengthwise across both lanes of the road. I am already doing ninety and the car didn’t have any lights on or anything … needless to say with my impeccable driving skills, we all know what happened -- Mom’s car got totaled as I t-boned these two high school girls. It was not my fault! I am saying this now so everyone knows that, though I crash my car into random farming equipment, posts, poles and the occasional parked car in a parking lot (which, yeah, sorry...my bad) my driving is not that bad. So I walked away without a scratch, thank god, but next time I am asked to DD I’m pretty sure that the answer will be "No," cuz it is also the answer I get when I ask to borrow mom’s car now. I also got a new ride. Her name is Rebecca Volvo, and she is my new car. I know. "Why is it that Cody crashes his parents’ vehicle and he is the one to receive a new car?" you ask. Well, after my little incident my parents thought that the car I have been driving for two years (known as the "Death Trap”) wasn’t really safe for driving. I agreed because it’s not even safe enough to use as a paper weight, let alone careening through the streets. Now let’s talk about Tyler's and Earl’s experience catching cattle this past week. I don’t have a firsthand account, but I didn’t get the run down on events from Tyler so I’m going to try and tell you guys word for word what he told me. First of all, it was CRAZY-- not just "crazy" but all caps CRAZY -- and also he said he never wanted to do it again… so here we go! Dad got the call that this firefighter's cattle had gotten out and he needed them caught ASAP because he lived close to the 401 and was a little scared that one might get on there and he would gets sued into next week. Of course, Earl’s answer to this was "Well, they will probably stay off the highway anyways; they don’t like a lot of noise." Well, Earl was wrong.. So wrong indeed that not only did one steer jump the fence and run onto the highway but so did three others, six dogs, and Tyler on his horse, Tyra. Dad's horse refused to jump the fence so from then on it was up to Tyler to do the work. He roped one and tied it to a tree; roped another one on the side of the highway and had four cars swerve around him at sixty miles an hour. (One car hit my dog Uno and, though she did get run over by two tires and hit her head on the road, she was okay, but she doesn’t like going to get the mail with me anymore.) Dad threw some ropes down from an over pass down to Tyler to catch the last couple steers. By this time the whole 401 was shut down and the trucks were lining up. Then out pops a steer who starts to run down the highway ditch towards the other side, which I’ll have you know was still going fast. Tyler threw the rope and it went over the steer's head at a full run and then over his body and Tyler just snagged him around the hocks. Pure luck? He says its talent, but I’m not too sure. He also said that as he was chasing the steer down he was thinking "Oh my god, this is so much pressure." He got the steer stopped just as it hit the gravel on the side of the road. He was then congratulated by all the truckers who were watching this go down. Tyra is really used to air horns now. Though Tyler says this was exciting, the best moment of the day was when he saw a big fire truck coming and the fire chief who was driving had Tyler’s dog DJ in his lap and our other two dogs hanging out the windows in the back seat. After that experience, it became pretty obvious that maybe we should charge more. And so that was our little experiences for the month. See? You guys never know what might happen when the Fosters set out for the day. Here’s to hoping for the best or at least the most blog worthy! See you later, guys! Cody |
