There may have been a record number of applicants for the Bob Jamieson Memorial Bursary for 2009, an award and $500.00 Scholarship given to the a selected applicant fitting the following criteria:
Bob Jamieson was an Ontario Rodeo Association and Roping Association of Ontario avid roper in both the Tiedown and Team Roping Events. All of the applications were reviewed by the Bursary Panel consisting of: Joe Scully, ORA President, John Bridge, RAO President and Pat Jamieson. This year's winner is....Johnny Shore. Johnny Shore has been an Allaround, Steer Wrestling and Team Roping Year-end Champion in the Ontario High School Rodeo Association, and qualified for several National High School Rodeo Association Finals. In the RAO, he has been a Team Roping #2 Division Finals Champion. In the ORA, on top of qualifying for several Ontario Finals Rodeos, he was the 2005 ORA All-Around Champion. From his 8-year Rodeo career thus far, Shore has definitely accumulated enough championships to be referred to as "one of the greats" from Ontario, Canada. Academically, he spent a year at Fanshawe Collegiate in London, Ontario. It was at that time that he decided to try to obtain a Rodeo Scholarship like some of his former OHSRA Colleagues. He sent a video (available at www.Joescully.com/videos) to Northwestern Oklahoma State University and received an offer to join the NWOSU College Rodeo Team. He is currently in the process of completing a 4-year Agri-Business Bachelor's Degree, and competing on the Rodeo Team at NWOSU. Congratulations Johnny on being this year's recipient! Thank you to all of the applicants this year. It was not an easy decision for the panel to make, and of course we wish that everyone could have been awarded the Bursary. It was very encouraging to see how many of you are working hard towards your goals, and use some of the values that you have learned from your involvement in the Sport to guide you in your associated career paths. We wish you nothing but the best of luck in your Academic (and Rodeo/Roping) endeavours! Best, Joe Scully, ORA President and the Bob Jamieson Memorial Bursary Panel |
